If you do not have any grass cutting equipment, consider the cost of this investment. A riding lawn mower costs around $1500, a weed wacker around $100 and a blower will set you back about $150. In total, you are looking at around $1750 (excluding the gas and maintenance of this equipment). Obviously, if your mower breaks, there will be an additional cost and an oil change is required once a year. All these costs add up but, at the end of the day, you have your own grass cutting tools!
Hiring a lawn service can be an attractive option for many reasons. Firstly, if you don’t have the space to store your grass cutting equipment. Secondly, it eliminates the hard work in mowing your lawn in the warmer months. For lawn mowing, you will pay about $45 per half an acre – which can sound like a lot of money! However, you don’t have to pay for any equipment and you are hiring someone to cut your grass professionally!
There are advantages and disadvantages to both sides of the argument. Cutting your grass yourself is great in that you only have to fork out a large portion of money once and you will recoup what you save in lawn mowing fees over the years. However, you have to do it yourself and that takes time!
